Kisah Keseharian nyata
In a small, quiet village, lived a couple named Mr. Surya and Mrs. Rani. They had only one son, Dimas. From childhood, Dimas was known for his intelligence, vivacity, and curiosity. However, as he grew older, his parents became increasingly confused about how to educate and guide his son.
Mr. Surya was a simple father who always held on to old-fashioned values. For him, discipline and obedience were the main foundations of life. Mrs. Rani, on the other hand, was gentler and more affectionate, believing that children should be given the space to choose their own path. This difference in perspective often left them confused when dealing with Dimas's behavior.
One afternoon, Dimas came home from school looking gloomy. He threw his bag on a chair and said in an annoyed tone, "I don't want to take math lessons anymore. I prefer drawing." Mr. Surya was immediately shocked. "Drawing? Can you make a living from drawing? You have to study seriously. Good grades are the key to your future," he said firmly.
However, Mrs. Rani responded differently. She tried to reassure him by saying, "Let Dimas find what he likes. Wouldn't it be better if he were happy with his choice?" Despite her words, Mrs. Rani was also confused: was letting Dimas follow his heart the right decision, or a big mistake?
The following days, her confusion intensified. Dimas spent more and more time with crayons and blank paper, creating imaginative drawings. His grades didn't drop significantly, but they also didn't improve as Mr. Surya had hoped. Every evening, Mr. Surya and Mrs. Rani would spend long periods in the living room, wondering to themselves: what's the best way to educate this child?
On one occasion, Dimas's school held an art exhibition. Unbeknownst to his parents, Dimas included some of his drawings. Mrs. Rani happened to be present during the exhibition. She was surprised to see so many people praising Dimas's work, with one teacher even remarking, "This child has extraordinary talent. If he develops it, he could go far."
The news reached Mr. Surya. At first, he remained stubborn, refusing to accept the fact that drawing could be a path in life. However, that night, he reflected deeply. He remembered his youth, when he wanted to be a musician but was forced to give up his dream to work. Slowly, his heart softened. He didn't want his son to experience the same regret.
The next day, for the first time, Mr. Surya sat beside Dimas, who was drawing. "Son, if this is your path, I will support you. But remember, whatever you choose, you must do it sincerely," he said in a deep but sincere voice. Dimas's eyes lit up, while Mrs. Rani smiled with relief.
From then on, their confusion was no longer about the "right or wrong" way to raise children, but rather how to guide Dimas wisely. They realized that a parent's job is not to force their child to be what they want, but to guide them so they can stand firmly on their own path.
That confusion eventually transformed into a valuable lesson: that raising children is a long journey full of questions, and the answers are sometimes only found when parents are willing to listen to their own children's voices.
