The Brave Daughter-in-Law When Her Husband Is Not Home

The Brave Daughter-in-Law When Her Husband Is Not Home

In a small, quiet village, there lived a daughter-in-law named Sinta. She lived with her husband, Arif, and her in-laws, Mr. Wiryo and Mrs. Ratna. From the outside, this family appeared harmonious. Villagers often praised how fortunate Sinta was to have such kind and caring in-laws. However, the reality behind the door was far from what it seemed.

When Arif was home, Sinta always had a smile on her face and was respectful of her in-laws. She bowed politely, spoke softly, and was always ready to help with housework. Arif, a city employee, was proud that his wife got along so well with her parents. He believed their family lived peacefully.

However, everything changed when Arif went to work in the city. That's when Sinta's true colors emerged. Without her husband, she dared to raise her voice to her in-laws. The elderly Mrs. Ratna often performed tasks slowly, such as sweeping the yard or cooking. Sinta often lost her patience.

"Mom, why are you taking so long to cook? I've been hungry for a while!" Sinta snapped one morning.

Mrs. Ratna remained silent, her head lowered, even though her heart ached. She didn't want a scene to break out.

Mr. Wiryo was also scolded once when he forgot to close the chicken coop. "Sir, if the chickens escape, who will take responsibility? Don't be so reckless, I'm tired of taking care of the house!" he said in a high voice. Every time they were scolded, the in-laws remained silent. They knew that if they resisted, things would only get worse. They also didn't want Arif to know, for fear of their son's sadness. So they swallowed all of Sinta's harsh words without retaliating.

Day after day, this habit continued. The in-laws lived in silence, only able to let out long sighs. However, the neighbors began to suspect something. Several times, angry voices could be heard coming from inside the house when Arif was away. One day, a close neighbor, Mrs. Marni, plucked up the courage to ask Mrs. Ratna.

"Ma'am, why do I often hear high-pitched voices coming from your house when Arif isn't there?"

Mrs. Ratna smiled weakly. "Ah, maybe I just misheard. This house is close to the road, and the sound of vehicles often echoes," she answered rationally.

However, the truth couldn't be hidden forever. One afternoon, unbeknownst to Sinta, Arif came home earlier than usual. He wanted to surprise her. As he entered the yard, he heard loud voices coming from inside. Sinta was yelling at Mrs. Ratna, who was having difficulty grinding spices in the kitchen.

"You're so old, you're still so slow, you're annoying people! If you can't work fast, I'll do it!" Sinta's voice boomed.

Arif was shocked. He stood frozen in front of the door, watching his wife's angry face. Meanwhile, his mother remained silent, her eyes welling with tears.

"Sinta... is that how you talk to me?" Arif's voice was deep, startling Sinta. Her face was pale, her body trembling. She hadn't expected her husband to return home.

From that day on, Sinta's true face was revealed. Arif felt disappointed and hurt. He finally reprimanded his wife firmly. "Respect your parents not only in front of others, but also when no one is watching. That determines who you truly are."

The story became a powerful lesson. In that small village, Sinta's story spread by word of mouth. Everyone learned that sincerity can't just be displayed when others are watching. Honesty will always find a way to be revealed.

Would you like me to make this version of the story more dramatic and full of conflict, or more of a subtle moral message?
